Motril

Cruise Port Overview

Motril, Spain

We had no opportunity to explore the actual port of Motril, we only used it only as a transfer point to tour the Alhambra Palace.

Most people use this port as an opportunity to go on a once-in-a-lifetime tour of the Alhambra Palace.

The Alhambra Palace tour is worth the visit, but you must book your tickets well in advance of your visit. Instead of a NCL excursion, we chose to do this excursion through a 3rd party vendor Spain Day Tours. Our tour started very early in the day, and we had to be one of the first ones off of the ship when it first docked. They used a 24-passenger small bus with a private tour guide speaking Spanish/English for the tour.

Our tickets that we got were the Alhambra General tour and Generalife Gardens tour which gave us access to everything on-site except for the Nasrid Palaces interiors. We would have liked to see the interior of the palace as well, but the timed entry tickets for that part of the tour were sold out over 2 months before our visit. It was still worth seeing just the main parts of the Alhambra and the gardens.

The famous Alhambra Palace – a World Heritage UNESCO Site, was the palace and fortress of the Moorish monarchs of Granada, Spain 1238-1358.
