Palma

During our visit to the island of Palma Mallorca, we chose to take the NCL excursion “Magical Majorca and Train to Soller”. This was probably the best cruise line offered excursion on our entire cruise, and well worth the money for this tour! The duration is 4.5 hours, and the tour has 2 options, one option is to do a bus ride tour first going up from the port to the village of Sóller in the mountains and then taking the train ride back down to the port. The other option is to take the train ride up from the port to the village and then take the bus back down. Our tour was bus up and train down which was perfect for us. We rode the bus in the cool of the morning, and then the train in the heat of the afternoon and we enjoyed the breezes in the scenic train ride. Excursion cost was $160 pp. The train goes from Palma to Sóller and the tram goes from Sóller to Port de Sóller, and the two are different, we ported in Palma so we took the train.

Note: Book this tour early, as the train only has limited trips per day and capacity fills up fast. We arrived at this port on a Sunday morning, and we were worried that nothing would be open. After our bus tour, we ended up in the mountain village of Sóller, and we caught part of the Catholic Mass in the Esglesia de Sant Bartomeu de Sóller. We also got to sing along in Spanish with a local Christian church group who were playing their guitar and singing in the public square as well. Many shops were open in the village even though it was a Sunday morning. The views of the mountains, the tunnels, and the orange groves and olive groves on the train ride back down the mountain were just spectacular! Well worth the trip!
